Principal’s Corner
August 2009

Welcome back! While the past two months seem to have flown by, our faculty and staff are excited to have students coming back and to get started teaching and learning again.

I am very proud of all of our students, families, faculty, and staff for a great year last year. We made Adequate Yearly Progress as defined by the No Child LeftBehind law and are, once again, a Title I distinguished school. Title I is a federal program that helps our school get additional resources to help our students succeed. Additionally, we will be using some federal funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to help provide resources for our students.

As a result of budget cuts from the state level, we are starting the year with one less teacher than last year and fewer days for teachers to prepare for students and participate in professional learning opportunities. While the coming months seem to hold additional economic challenges for our community and state, we pledge to continue using all our available resources to help your child achieve academic excellence. We will also continue to be frugal in our spending as we strive to stretch every dollar as far as possible in helping our students learn.

A few teachers have changed grade levels for this school year: Mrs. Mahan and Mrs. Tillman will be teaching kindergarten and Mrs. Cagle will be teaching 3 rd grade. We would also like to welcome Mrs. Robin Garner as our new parapro in kindergarten. All of our teachers continue to be highly qualified and have the experience and education to help your child succeed.

Once again this year, your child will receive a student agenda (grades K-5). The student handbook is located in the front of the agenda and contains many of our school policies and procedures. Please take a few minutes to review this information and contact your child’s teacher if you have questions.

I look forward to working with you to provide an exciting year of learning for our students.
