Here at Davis Elementary, September brings the first hints of fall and is usually the time we stop teaching procedures and reviewing learning from last year, and really start picking up the pace with new learning. I want to thank all of you for helping make this past month a great beginning to a great new year!
I had the opportunity to attend annual Pre-K training for site directors last week in Atlanta and wanted to share a great resource with you. If you have Internet access, the Georgia Pre-K web site at http://decal.ga.gov/ is a trove of information about child development and learning for parents. When you get to the site, if you click on the “For Families” link at the top of the page, you will find a wealth of information about how young children learn and develop. While the site is intended for families with four year old children, much of the information is about children from birth through five years of age.
If you do not have Internet access, we do have a parent computer station in the parent resource room you are welcome to use. Please contact Brenda Wheeler for information about how to schedule a time to use this station at 657-6300.
As part of the statewide Millionth Child Celebration in Pre-K this year, we are challenging all of our Pre-K families to read books at home and log them on the web site (http://decal.ga.gov/). By participating, you are eligible to win prizes from the Georgia Pre-K program.
We will also be challenging all of our students to read and record their books at school and at home. Our goal is to read One Million pages as a school family this year! Please stay tuned for more information about how we will keep up with our progress toward this goal.
As always, if you have questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher or call me at 706.657.6300. You can also email me at mikerich@dadecountyschools.org
